We had some personal and financial problems come up at the time that we had to deal with, but you will notice that we did catch up on them and have been paying on time regularly since then.

You don't owe these people an explanation. They work for you! Just do your best to pay what you owe and leave it at that. They only ask you because they have to. Say anything, they only want their money. The hell with 'em! Take care of yourself!
