Use any pattern for beaded necklaces, but use the ID tag as a bead!
Or add the little clips between the beads on which you can clip your tag on.

Take a good look at your current lanyard, and make the same basic shape out of bead-work.

But remember the safety issues, as most ID lanyards have a weak spot, so that the wearer can not be strangled with it.
You can do that by using a weak ring in the clasp, or by stringing the parts of the lanyards on separate strings, and string the whole on a single, rather weak string.
(You can easily repair it yourself, specially if you plan how to do so.)

Blue Moon offers a finding eye glasses holder. It's simple to string beads and add this to the center of the necklace and it works well for an ID badge, too! Check at A.C. Moore or Michaels or maybe Hobby Lobby for the finding. If you're worried about adding a weak link for safety purposes, complete the "necklace" using a magnetic closure.
