Yes BH got the answer first. For all of you who said 4, there could be more than one dropped third strike so the answer is infinity. I will give you the best answer after the 4 hours is up.

Theoretically, there is no limit. If the catcher does not catch the ball on a third strike, the batter is allowed to run to first. If he can get there before the ball, he is not out, but the pitcher still gets credit for a strikeout. So it is possible to strike out more than 3 batters in an inning, which is why a lot of people have said 4.

But a batter reaching first this way could happen more than once, so more than 4 strikeouts are possible. In fact, since theoretically this could keep happening over and over again, there is no limit to the number of batters a pitcher can strike out in an inning.

A pitcher can only strike out 3 batters in one inning. Each batter can only get three strilkes. There is only three outs per inning. I know that sometimes a batter player may run to first base if the catcher drops or misses the ball on the third strike. If that's the case then the answer may be infinity. But that really doesn't happen very often.

you can get an infinate amount of strike outs. With 2 strike outs already if the catcher drops the third strike the running is allow to try to take first base. This will count as a strike out for the pitcher, but not count as an out for the inning ... realistically you can keep doing that and doing that, It would get really bad with a guy trying to advance from third to home and make it though.

He can strike out an infinite number of batters in an inning. Everyone who said 4 is retarded, because if you can drop a third strike, why cant you do it more than once.

There's no limit to the number a pitcher can get, assuming the defensive team keeps dropping the third strike.

There have been several minor leaguers who have struck out five an inning, although nobody has recorded more than four in an inning at the major league level.

the question is poorly phrased, the answer to that question is infinity. the question should have been something like how many batters can a pitcher strike out in an inning without giving up a run.

There isn't a maximum...if the catcher keeps dropping the third strike and allowing the runners to advance the pitcher can keep getting strike outs. My guess is if the catcher did it more than twice then the backup catcher would be in there.

Four. If the batter swings at the ball but the catcher drops it the runner can run to first and if he is safe that is an out for the pitcher but the runner stays on base
