Go to target, they have nice (in style) things that would be appropriate for a 16 year old.

Hey! You could get her any of these things:
1. A gift certificate to the mall
2. A cellphone case or purse
3. Earings in her favorite color and style, or a necklace with her name or the first letter of her name like "E" or something... (if she likes earings and jewlery)
4. Ipod Nano
5. You could customize a calander (spelling's horrible...sorry) an every month you could put a picture of you and her in every month of the year. For cold months, have you and her in winter clothes. For warmer months, have you and her at the beach or something.
6. A diary (if she doesn't already have one)
7. Ask her! I'm 15 and love it when people ask me what I want instead of getting a surprise for me!

There are so many things you can buy for a 16 year old like a car that is the number 1 thing or jewlry every girl likes jewlry or a nice dinner

Absolutely money. Do not do gift cards unless it's a prepaid credit card as this limits where she can spend it. I surveyed my own family a few years back as kids started reaching that age and I was at wit's end what to give. The overwhelming answer was cash!!

I got a small jewelry box around that age. My first real one. And somewhere around that age I got a keepsake box made by Lane. It was about the size of a shoebox and cedar so nothing would go bad.

If she likes movies or TV shows...then buy her the DVDs of her favorite shows. Possibly movies that you saw with her that you could remember you both liked would work. if she likes music get her an Ipod....you should get her something with substance though, not a gift card.
