This is silly but what is the average height for a feamle adult?
I'm 5'9 1/2" and I feel so much taller than the rest of my friends who are 5'3", 5'4", etc etc.

It may not feel like it, but you are considered very tall even in the United States. Surprisingly, most women are petite. The average height for a woman is 5'3-5'4. In many other countries women are even shorter. Where I'm from in India, you would be taller than the average man!. In the United States however, the average height for a male is 5'9" so you exceed that by a 1/2". You are tall and sexy! Be proud.

It's 5 ft. 8. I'm 5 ft. 7 in. tall and in college the professors told me that I'm shorter than average height for a White American adult woman.

Try being 5'11". It seems like everyone is short. (My husband was 5'2" and we had the best fun with that.)
