It's about time gender roles changed. When I was growing up I heard a constant refrain "girl's don't do that" since I wanted to hike, camp, canoe, climb trees, etc I later became a wilderness guide.
I also had a number of employers tell me "women don't do that" when I tried to apply for a number of different types of jobs as well. I became a computer programmer, in spite of all the claims that women are not logical that I heard as well.
When I married, my husband I each did what we liked to do, but we got constant flack from other couples since we weren't doing things "the way we were supposed to". After we divorced, I decided not to marry again and put up with such archaic ideas of what a "husband" and a "wife" are "supposed" to do. I'll consider a domestic partnership, but not marriage again. It's too stifling.

A detailed answer would take far too long, but in general - it's bad for America, bad for children, bad for families.
Like any institution, such as a corporation, or even the military, defined roles are necessary for order and efficiency. There will always be cross overs - but cross overs should not be the foundation on which we stand.
Just think about the word "blur"...since when is anything blurry good? If you can't see straight, if you lack clarity - then you lack direction. We wouldn't drive or try to read a book with blurry vision, yet, we try to raise children with blurred roles?

Gender roles eh? The only gender roles I can accept is that of pregnancy and birthing. I submit that whoever has the most skill necessary for a successful result is the one who performs it. Of course gender related activity has become superimposed on each other. Why not. Performing work that has previously been defined as gender related by either gender should not affect ego or self image. There is a power dynamic involved when gender roles are assigned. Hey guys, get over it. And you women as well.

Define "blurring of gender roles." Is that really even happening? If so, are you certain that it hasn't always been so? You need to define your terms better. You could mean a number of different things with such a vague phrase as "blurring of gender roles." Depending on what you mean, the answer to this question can vary greatly.

I say it's good. I know it might seem easier to have men doing one thing only and women doing another only, but if you look at countries where gender roles are stricter, women are the ones who suffer. Since I am a woman, I am glad I can be the breadwinner or do what I want to do without a man's permission. It's hard sometimes to be the breadwinner and have all the responsibility placed on me, but I don't think I'd have it any other way.
Also, things weren't always the way we think they were in the past. There were lots of women who worked hard and hardly any women were the June Cleaver types. The media has influenced us for way too long. I know some people who are killing themselves trying to live up to the myths that Hollywood and TV create. Life's too short to get caught up in all that. :)
Good luck! :)

Good! if we learn something,
But bad if it leads to the destruction of all life on earth!
We could learn that a division of roles is a natural outcome of our environment. That though we may experiment with our identities, they serve a function or value in our society and will ultimately return of their own volition and we will be free to move on to other things. Or we will learn that the environmental pressures that originally created the need for sharp role distinctions have disappeared and we will be free to "role with the punches" :).
We will know the answer when we see Ophrey on the cover of Popular mechanics magazine.

On a case-by-case basis, I see nothing wrong with it. Each individual family needs to make their own decisions on who will get what done.
However, on a society level I think it is bad. I don't think that any of the "progress" that was made during the 20th century has improved life. Quite the opposite. And the family structure has suffered the most, disappearing entirely in some circles.

I dont mind a bit, if my wife goes out and gets paid more than me great, more money for us(which she does) and I stay home with the kids when I dont work (which I do), in this society today, you do what you have to do to get by.
