I have a Dell computer and I have just brought a karaoke style mic which I have plugged into the mic input socket at the front of the computer, the mic is switched on and all the things on the sound controls are up? Any ideas??

Insure that it is a microphone input and NOT a line level audio input. Most inputs can be changed electronically, but some can't. If it is a line level input (like a VCR or DVD) you can't plug a mike into it without changing it.

i always wave to go to the sounds and audio devices icon in the control panel and test my mic hardware after that it will usually work. Good Luck!

it depends on what kind of software, do u have a CD for the mic, and which program do u have [windows 2000, xp, 98, 98SE, etc.]

un-mute it in the volume control menu under assessories>entertainment>volume control
