A politician is in power due to the people who elected him, and has an obligation to be the voice of there concerns, however; the politician must be careful not to impose the tyranny of the people. In all I believe it is the duty of the politician to practice both.

A politician was elect to represent all of his constituents but that politician still has ethic values of his own that should have been highlighted during the election process.
I don't think the IQ has anything to do with the decision making process is based on facts not on ease of learning. Some our my State's representatives were once a waitress or a vet or a lawyer, but each in their own way is a very good representative.
When you elect a person you are saying "I trust your judgement whether I agree or not." If you don't then next time run for the office or help someone else to get elected.

That is a wonderful question and I am glad that you brought it up.Should a politician focus on doing the right thing or should his decisions be based on what voters may think?Perhaps, and I will make sure this is addressed,in the mean time if you should be so kind as to as to do me a favor I would like to suggest that you help vote me into office as this would be the best for all of us,wouldn't you agree...

Well..........doing what you think is right will only get you a 35% approval rating in this country! For example........
We voted Bush into a second term in 2004 to keep doing what he was doing. Then in 2006 we voted democrats into the House and the Senate to STOP Bush from doing what we elected him to do just 2 years earlier! Go figure!
I think Americans need to take a look at what they want over the next 10-20 years and quit being so wishy washy.

The voters should always be considered but at the end of the day they are elected to make decisions.

A politician should do the right thing, but they rarely do. They rarely even tell us the truth. They tell us what we want to hear to get elected and then do what they have to in order to maintain power.

Watching congress vote recently I think that each member votes according to their own political and perhaps religious beliefs, and lobbyists and their major campaign contributors have influence over their votes also.

95% do what the voters want and 5% brainwashing/socialisation/
public-'information'-films.
You must do as they want so they vote you in and once in then use the public purse to brainwash them ino doing what's moral. For your own conscience you must do what's right, but not too much of it.
