Take birth control to stop having monthly periods? I heard of a few birth control options that make you have your period less frequent. Can I take these even though I have no intention of having sex? I usually have VERY HEAVY periods that last at least 7 days and sometimes up to 10. Is this okay to do?

You shouldn't try and stop or change your periods unless you really need to. Menstruation is part of what your body does to keep you healthy, and if you stop your body doing what it does best it can lead to serious health problems.

Get to a gynecologist. There's a new pill that makes you have 3-4 periods a year. And yesterday I read that there's a brand newer pill that gives you ONE period a year!! How sweet would that be? But the Gyno can give you all the answers about side effects, etc. Go! Very heavy periods for 7 days is just too much to have to take. Good luck, kiddo! :)

You can get the birth contrl shot which sometimes stops your period but any time a birth control stops your period, you usually gain weight and if you stop the birth control, you will have a very heavy and sometimes more painful than usual period. try to cut down on your salt intake and drink plenty of water, also see a doctor to talk about what else can lighten your period, because not having your period is in no way healthy.

There is a birth control that can give you four periods a year, and one that can give you none. The second one is found to have spotting, though. Both of these are only available from your doctor.

I've known quite a few people who naturally had almost crippling periods, very heavy and bad cramping and such, that were put on the pill in their teens just so they could actually function... But go through a gyno to do it, so that you know that everything is cool...

Yes you can take the pill to help with your peiord. Talk to your parent(s) about it first and if she says NO but you just can't take it any more look up the nearest planned parenthood near you. I'm not telling you that you should go behind your parent(s) back but my mom wouldn't put me on the pill and I had the same problem but I went to planned parenthood and since I've been on the pill it's been alot easier.

Go to a gyno & let them put you on a pill. They may not put you on one that will eliminate periods, but if they are real long & heavy then you will probably be put on a pill that will regulate it.
