why do a lot of the answerers ignore it? Don't they realize that it makes their answer useless?
Example - Someone asks a question about computers. They ask that people answer with their favorite laptop and what they do and do not like about it.
Then, a bunch of people respond like
"Dood, I wish I had a laptop, so rad"
"Well I dunno what mine is called but it's really cool"
"I have a Dell laptop"
etc etc. It annoys the heck out of me! Why do they bother answering the question if they aren't going to FULLY answer it? It makes their answer a useless waste of space!!

WOW Alison... Missy really is one of my nicknames :D My grandma calls me that!! hehe. (My name is Melissa)
P.S. to the people who mentioned it - it's not like I'm stressing over this or anything, I know it's just the internet! haha.

I agree. if you're not going to take the time to answer the question serioulsy, then don't. but i think people do that to get the 2 points. sometiems i'll do that for a non-specific question, or if it's a really really dumb question, but not for a really specific one.
i also hate when people only answer to say something like "you're so insecure, get a life, you suck" etc etc.

Because it provides 2 points
because most people on here are under the age 18 and this means they have no advice to give so they gather points with useless answers.
because I dont have a laptop but if i did it would be rad!

It is mostly because many people do not read the entire question. And even if they do, they generally don't take the time to put any thought into the answer. It seems that many people on here are just trying to rack up points. They don't seem to realize that the points are useless. Even when Y!A promises things like keychains, lightbulbs, or canvas bags, they don't deliver.

Some people here will do anything for two free points so they give the idiotic response. However, there are instances when the ask-er doesn't know how to ask a question. For example "Laptops???" or "Laptops? What's good or bad?" So I guess it depends on the situation.

Because if they are on the internet this much to answer the question then they probably are like me. Bored out of there mind. They want to earn points to so they can ask questions. And who wouldn't want a laptop. This feels all wrong.

The whole thing about points seems a bit nuts to me and that's what people seem to want is points. I have answered questions completely with web sites they could click on for more info and someone with a totally crazy answer gets best answer. I think a lot of people just want to use this site for entertainment and not to get serious answers to their questions. When I have answered with something smart *** or stupid I get best answer. How dumb is that!! Now I just go to polls and surveys and have fun with it.

It's a form of chatting. Like a cyber nod.
No harm in it, they're not hard to skim. It's not as if most questions get SO many answers that it's a huge time vacuum.
You may be studying too hard, time for a break and a laugh Missy! ;D

I love lamp.....
Just kidding. Ya there are a lot of waste of spaces that answer/ask in Y!A
Knowing that you have to look for the one that does answer your question though. The other catch I have found is that despite giving a right and easy to read answer the question asker will pick which ever answer they want despite the relevance and accuracy of the answer.

It also puts out the fact that they may not know much about the subject, and are mainly answering for points.
If I don't know the answer to a question, I just pass over it because I don't want to look stupid, or give bad advice.
So I completely agree with what you are saying.

thats why i am a polls and surveys regular, i dont expect anything from the answerers, they can give me anything they want, anyway this is just for fun for me..
when i really need an answer, i will post it to the right category, and if i dont get the right answer, i can just google it or call the service center hotline, which is free and efficient too
