Will the following players be selected to the HOF after they retire. I need a YES or a NO and your argument either way. You don't have to match what I think, the best argument either way wins 10 points:
1- Johan Santana
2- Barry Bonds
3- Chipper Jones
4- Carl Crawford
5- Manny Ramirez

Johan Santana - Not at this point, but he's got a shot. On the plus side, he already has 2 Cy Young Awards and a three-year run of dominance. The negative is that he's 28 and only has 84 career victories. I think he needs to win 200 to have a shot, so he'll need to keep up his excellence for another 7-10 years.

Barry Bonds - It all comes down to personal feeling on this one. His numbers are obviously Hall-worthy, but it's a question of whether one feels he cheated the game. Given that he's never been proven guilty of breaking MLB rules, I'd have to give him a "yes" vote.

Chipper Jones - Chipper will get into Cooperstown as one of those "good-but-not-great for a long period of time" guys. A .300 career hitter, with an OBP over .400, and he'll likely end up with 400 homers to go with his 2,000 hits. I think he's close to being a lock.

Carl Crawford - He's the toughest call because he's only 25 years old. If he keeps at his current pace, he'll easily surpass 2,500 hits. I think he could help his chances, though, by taking a few more walks - it would help his OBP, and give him more chances to steal bases and score runs. At this point, I'm completely on the fence for him.

Manny Ramirez - Yes, without a doubt. I almost consider Manny to be underrated, given that he's overshadowed at times by Big Papi. He's 10th all-time in OPS, he'll have 500 homers soon, and he's both a good hitter (.313) and on-base guy (.410). Even with his shaky fielding, this guy is one of the best players of his generation.

1- Johan Santana-Yes. Since the start of the Cy Young award in 1956, there has only been one 2 time Cy Young winner who has not made the HOF (obviously excluding active players and people not yet eligible). That man is Danny McLain (1969 he was a co-Cy Young winner). Johan will easily reach 2500 KOs, 230 wins and will win 1 or 2 more Cy Young’s. Keep in mind, this guys is only in the 4th year as a full-time starter.

2- Barry Bonds-Yes. Barry Bonds will never get caught by MLB for doing performance enhancing drugs. He would have had 500 HRs and 500 SBs without the juice. He is a lock for the HOF unless MLB busts him for HGH somehow.

3- Chipper Jones-No. As much as I really like Chipper as a player, I don't feel he will have the numbers to get into the HOF. He doesn't excel in one category of stats and the hall voters love stats. Chipper is an excellent player and well respected but not quite a HOF caliber player. He never dominated an era and that is suppose to be the rule of thumb to use if a player hasn't hit any milestones. He won't get 3000 hits, he won't hit 500 homeruns or any other milestones.

4- Carl Crawford-It is too early to really predict because he needs many more years of 45+ stolen base season to get in and keep his average above or around .300. I think he can do that and that is why I think he will get into the HOF. If Tim Raines gets elected next year (Crawford’s numbers to date are really similar) than Carl has a good chance.

5- Manny Ramirez-Yes. Has Manny dominated an era? Yes he has. The fact that Manny is only 20 HRs shy of 500 is enough of a fact to make my point.

1- Johan Santana
2- Barry Bonds
3- Chipper Jones
4- Carl Crawford
5- Manny Ramirez

1) Way to early to tell. A few great years doesn't make a HOF candidate (Sandy Koufax notwithstanding)
2) Yes. Unless the voters absolutely forget that over 600 home runs were legitimately hit as well as 500 stolen bases, they should elect him. McGwire (so far) hadn't been elected, but his entire game was home runs. Bonds had a decent average, scored runs and won gold gloves. Now, some of the MVPs may be in question, but he still would have 3 or 4 of them.
3) I am going to say no on this one. Chipper Jones is very similar to Dale Murphy. He may end up with more home runs, but the times are changing and 500 can be reached without being truly great at it.
4) Crawford, again, too early to tell. He has great potential.
5) I don't know about Ramirez. He is a great hitter for sure. Gets a ton of RBIs, but again, hasn't even been the greatest in his league for a year.
I think he will get in as press voters are blinded by #'s sometimes.

3- Chipper Jones= No
4- Carl Crawford= Don't know enough about him. to say
5- Manny Ramirez= Yes especially if he gets 500 home runs.

1 Santana - too early to tell (see Dwight Gooden for a sad morality tale)

2- Barry Bonds - had a better chance of being a first ballot election if he had retired 6 years ago before his most recent 4 MVP awards than he does now. But he will be elected.

3 - Chipper - very good chance. Especially since 3rd base is under-represented.

4 - Carl Crawford - who?

5 - Manny - first ballot lock.

2. Yes but a lot of people would say "no" because of the steroid issue.
3. Yes-Won some Golden Gloves and 1 WS ring.
4. No- He hasn't reach a milestone yet but has won rookie of the year. He has stolen a lot bases and could beat Rickey Henderson stolen base record.
