I have heard the word "yank" means different things to people from different places, anyone care to expand?

It is usually what Europeans refer to Americans as. People in the south refer to people in the north as Yankees.

Yank is a slang term for Americans used by British & Australians.

My idea of "YANK " goes back to the civil war union troops were called Yankees, and was shortened to "YANK" if someone calls u a yank, just means you are from northern states. of coarse the term yanking you're chain is also a possibility. that's just to "PULL"

i've been called a yank(ee) before b/c i'm from the north.
i don't really embrace the term, but it doesn't really offend me either. i have bigger fish to fry as far as combating name-calling is concerned.
