I'm a huge harry potter fan and I want to get the 7th book the second its released. I've never been to a release party before. I'm planning to go to Barnes and Noble in Minnesota. Are they having a release party? What should I expect? What will I do? Like, just get there and stand in line all night? Should I pre-order the book? If I pre-order it, will it be in the bookstore on July 21 (in the night, not in the morning)? Or will it just be sent to my home in the morning? Because I want to get it in the bookstore. What time should I get there to get the book? Like a specific time, don't tell me to just get there whenever I want. Because I want to be one of the first people in line. any additional information would be awesome. if you have been to a release party, can you tell me what happened? Thanks.

Should I pre-order the book before I go to the release party? Or will I just get my book there?
on www.barnesandnoble.com, it says you can reserve it at your local B & N, but when you click on it, it ask for shipping information so it can be sent to you. also, if i reserve it, will i get it at the release party?

I went to a Barnes and Noble party in Ohio for Half Blood Prince release - they had a magician, an owl-handler, a sorting hat, and a scavenger hunt.
I got there at 4:30 pm. There were a few people milling around, asking questions about how to get in line, where to start the line... they were still putting up decorations (huge boxes labeled "Do Not Sell until" that day, filled with the books were roped off in a corner).
At 5:00, when more than 30 people were in the store, asking about what to do, they announced where to start the line. We waited until 6:00, when they started handing out bracelets with numbers. They secured your place in line, so you were free to leave and come back later.
I returned at 9:30 pm. The store was full and about 15 minutes after we arrived, they stopped letting people in, since the fire code didn't allow any more people.
My friend and I milled around, we did the scavenger hunt. The line for the sorting hat was way too long, so we just got a couple of books from the humor section, and laughed ourselves silly until 11:30.
11:30, they started organizing everyone for the line. Everyone with 40 and under as numbers were allowed first, but there was no ranking... if someone had the number 2 and the number 36, the one with 36 could be first... they didn't matter.
As I was in the first group, I didn't have much trouble getting into line. There was a countdown, and we all yelled at midnight and they started sales. I got my book within 15 minutes.
Since I had a low number, I had no troubles. It was annoying to have a few people pretend to not understand what the numbers meant, and try to get in line earlier than they should, but it was overall very successful.
I hope that helps! There's a website called http://www.potterparties.com where you can get information about the Harry Potter release parties in your area.

I've been to every party since the forth book and I've found out that the best thing to do is go to the walmart next door. There won't be any lines, I got it for about a third of the cost, and I was back to pick up my friends before the line at books a million had even started moving.
If you want to get in line at Barnes and Noble, I'd suggest thirty minutes before, maybe forty-five to be safe. At 11:45 the lines are always so long that I just leave my friend's in line and go to walmart. That's actually how I ended up getting my books.
You also might want to see if there is a contest. When the forth book came out, the BooksAMillion had a costume contest and me and my brother ended up winning and getting the book first. Definitely call Barnes and Noble and see if something like that will be happening!

Talk to someone at your Barnes & Noble, but generally most big bookstores will be having release parties; only orders from online comanies like Amazon deliver to your door instead of to the bookstore; it will be waiting for you; if you want to get your book at exactly midnight, get to the store about a day ahead of time, and otherwise the earlier you go, the sooner you get it.
This is my first time too, but my dad and sister went to the release parties for books 4, 5, and 6 while I was out of town. They assure me not to get my hopes up about entertainment, though it might be better in Minnesota than in Texas. Don't forget, you're really there for the book, so don't be disappointed if it's not a "wild and magical party" like they might promise you.
Have fun! I'm be squealing halfway across the country as you receive your book!

Hello fellow Minnesotan and Harry Potter fan!! I'm reserving mine at B & N as well for the first time. Don't reserve it online, just go in early around 5 or 6 and get a ticket, or call and ask when they give out tickets. Books go on sale at midnight - can't wait!! Have fun :)

it depends on the certain store but all of the HP release parties i have been to they do costume contest, play wizards chess, play harry potter clue, and other harry potter board games, they also usually have a thing where you guess what is going to happen in the book
and the person with the most detailed closest guess wins like a $100 gift certificate
second plac gets $50
and best concept that didnt happen gets $20
it is awesome

Harry Potter is for little kids. Are you a loser or something? Grow up, get a job and, become an important piece of society other than a waste of oxygen.
