Yes, you should be concerned - if he doesn't cry at all. I may not show my tears to others. To me, it's not appropriate to cry in front of others. I even take a medication to remove my emotions from me memories - BUT...I do cry!

I have been through a major hurricane, a kidnapping situation involving my second wife, a combat situation, and multiple surgeries including a recent biopsy under local anesthesia little more than a week ago, the results of which were life threatening and life changing and yes, I cried especially when a needle was put directly into the right side of my head for the procedure. I am a human being and I do cry. If I don't - and there was a time in my life that I did not - then I am (was) a walking time bomb.

Night time in particular is a time in which my demons came back to haunt me and there were many a time when I cried in my girlfriend's arms from a combat nightmare. The best thing you can do with your boyfriend is to be 100% supportive when telling him that he cries in his sleep. Listen to him when he wants to talk to you. You may be shocked at what he might have to say, but the best thing to do is let him know that you are there for him no matter what. No matter what - even the biggest and strongest man - is still a human being will cry. MacArthur cried in front of his troops before sending them off, my boss cries when his son blew his head off in his A-frame house, and I cried watching "Twin Towers" on DVD. I don't cry in front of others except my girlfriend, but I do cry.

I dated an ex-Marine who used to cry, kinda often. I don't think it makes him any less of a "macho man," but it's sweet you are concerned.

I would wait til you 2 are closer (maybe dating for 6 months or so) and then try talking to him about it sometime when you are alone together. Don't make it into a big deal, just ask him kind of casually if he realizes that he's doing it.

He might be a little embarrassed, but on the other hand he might appreciate your concern. Good luck!

Concerned about what? About the fact that he may be having a horrible nightmare? Geesh! I dont care what your age or macho level is...We're ALL human and possess all emotions.
