Alonzo I love your name, my grandfather, brother and nephew were named Alonzo.
I got rich the old fashion way, work hard, get educated and live on much much less than I earn. Anyone can do it but you have to want it more than you want most other things like vacations and fancy cars. When you think the words rent or interest think it should be income not out go. We all pay interest at some point but paying it at 6% is much better than paying it at 29.9% so don't borrow expensive money.
Invest in assets that go up in value like stocks and real estate not assets that go down in value like cars and cell phones.

Shiprepairwoman hit the nail on the head. I don't know what you consider rich, but I think I've amassed pretty significant wealth, and I did it just as she described.
I have always lived below my means
I started saving for retirement when I was 23
I don't waste my money on expensive cars
I only buy a car about every 10 years (and pay cash for them)
My only debt has always just been my mortgage (which I pay extra on every month)
These steps gave me the freedom to leave a job I wasn't enjoying, move to a new city where I'd always wanted to live, take a year off from working, and start a new job that is much less stressful (but pays less) than my previous one. Also, I am planning to retire by 55 which I would not be able to afford to do if I had not been careful with my money.

Marry well -
Kidding aside - go to college - get a job and do well meet a lot of great people a long the way don't burn bridges -
and do something you love to do. Sometimes you have to invest a little to gain a lot.
