You don't lose compression. Compression is only a factor inside the engine block.

Whether or not you lose horsepower depends on the output of the engine. If the engine doesn't fill the pipe with exhaust gasses, you'll get back pressure which will cause a loss in horsepower.

Compression in the combustion chambers is regulated by oil, ring seal and valve closing straight pipes wouldn't change anything here. A loss of fuel / air mixture would have an adverse effect. Horsepower may redused because of the free breathing exhaust. It's very important to inspect your spark plug color where the porcelain meats the outer shell. A slight off white light grey color is ideal when using no - lead fuel. Look carefully at the plugs in the ends of both cylinder heads. If you operate with a Holley jet up one size in each corner of the carb and run it hard at WOT and read the four corners again. Change jets till you ee the correct plug color.

An eight cylinder engine needs it's right and left exhaust pipes attached to each other somewhere in the exhaust system to be what is called a "tuned exhaust." Some connections are at the engine, some are inside your muffler, etc.

This keeps the engine exhaust pressure equalized, so yes, you will lose horsepower.

No, you will not lose compression.
The only way you lose compression inside an engine is either through the piston rings, the head gaskets, or the valve seals inside your heads.

Or, through a big honkin hole in your engine block!

you will lose horsepower unless you reprogram the computer chip or change the injection system. The muffler and converter provide back pressure on the cyl 's. Without the back pressure you are more likely to throw a rod as the gas escape to quickly.

Back-pressure is what you lose. HP should increase, and compression happens inside the cylinders.

you will loose some back pressure which is generally what helps some engines run really well, most of the cars built today require some back pressure to help them run good, strait pipes without any thing to hold any of the back pressure in,will sometimes make an engine run worse than better, and you can get a ticket for excessive noise,if its too loud, good luck with it hope this helps.
