Having trouble getting my microphone working. PLZ HELP?

ive check to see if a brand new mic works on the computer and it doesnt so that tells me its my computer that isnt letting the microphone work. I use ventrilo alot with my mic and thats why i want it to work so i can talk on ventrilo. i have a built on sound card in my mother board and a PCI slot one and the mic doesnt want to work for either sound card. plz help

Hi. Check your settings. Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Volume control>. You may have to experiment and you can select which sound system, on board or soundcard, to set.
