No, $2000 is not even close to the amount of money someone needs to replace things they have lost due to a natural disaster but, it is also a shame that these people looking for handouts did nothing to get out when imminent danger was upon them. There were ways to leave if anyone would have opened their eyes and looked. Instead they waited and waited and waited. Thinking poor helpless me. I'm not having it. I have evacuated so many times for hurricanes and lost possessions but I never once said "give to me, I deserve it because I sat on my butt".

"since that is what most of the Katrina money went to."
Yeah, I sure saw a lot of people living in crappy trailers after Katrina with FUBU clothes on. But in the land of reality, the majority of the money given out did not go to FUBU.
And yes, if you give up your house, and all the belongings in it, you can get $2000. In fact, I will write you a check today if you give me your house and all the stuff inside it.

What Katrina money? Those people didn't get anything. Many of them died in their homes. The others are struggling to get their homes back. Others have had to move to other states and are still struggling. You also need to give up everything to get that $2000 check.
You need to stop being racist and look at the facts. Didn't you even watch the news to see what happened and is happening now? Anyone who lived in New Orleans and was able to afford FUBU was already wealthy to begin with and didn't get a dime of FEMA money.
I remember seeing a rapper on the news who was in California during Katrina who went back and spent thousands of dollars to get aid to those who couldn't get out or who couldn't eat. He could have taken his yacht to the Caribbean and relaxed but didn't.
Get the facts straight.

HERE is the deal. To the guy that said for you to give up your house and the stuff in it. I am sure that you probably own your house and the stuff in it. You probably have INSURANCE. These people that you are talking about are RENTING and have NO INSURANCE. So the government stepped in and GAVE them money because they were not responsible enough to get insurance. If you live in a known flood plain and choose to stay there with no insurance to cover your stuff, isn't that called assumption of the risk?

1.Texas is a giant flood plain.
2. Storms every spring cause flooding in many parts of Texas.
3. Texans who continue to live in these flood plains don't deserve a dime of federal aid. Let the Texas state government take care of them.

you have to love republican humor.
it always seems to make light of pain, suffering and of course death - the republicans favorite light topic of conversation.
keep it up sparky - keep reminding us all of katrina and the nations first partisan response - one that continues to smear one of the world's great cities.
by the way, MOST of the fema money has not made it to the suffereing people of new orleans.
but hey, republicans can't consider it a total loss - lots of likely democratic voters have been forcibly removed.
it's a dark new world - one in which i'll never again vote republican.
they are a blight on this smiling land...
