are hispanic/black/asian? I was reading about the Madeline McCann case, and was curious as to why she was getting much attention. So I went to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and concluded that the majority of missing children under the age of five are involved in family abductions. But while I was searching the site, I saw that A LOT of the missing children are minorities. Is there any reasoning behind this?

I'd hate to make any cultural assumptions here, but I guess I will anyway.

1.) There tend to be more children per family in a minority family. This increases the chance of an abduction by a family member.

2.) On the whole minorities are more likely to be economically destitute. This creates the kind of stressful situation that results in less than amiable breakups.

3.) On the whole, minority females give birth both earlier and with greater frequency. They also tend to have children with more than one man. It appears that teenage motherhood and illegitimacy are not as taboo in minority culture as they are in white culture.

4.) Single parenthood is more prevalent in the minority population. With less supervision kids are more likely to get abducted, run away or get involved in illegal activity.

It's really not a racial thing. It's an economic thing. I bet if you looked at the details of each case you'd find that it doesn't follow racial lines so much as income lines. A poor family is much more exposed to elements that threaten the safety of children.

When a minority goes missing they don't get alot of media coverage which I think is really sad and that needs to change.

That's sad...but I'm thinking maybe it's family abductions...like mom has custody and won't let dad see the kids...so he takes them...or maybe a lot of them are running away....

perhaps because other races tend to be more paranoid and watch their children more closely?
