cold slows down chemical reactions. For non rechargable batteries, storing them at a cool temperature will increase their shelf (storage) life. as far as recharging them, it does not. The only way to recharge a battery is to reverse the chemical reaction in them by introducing a electric charge into them ( of opposite polarity). This does not work for most non rechargable batteries. the compounds and structures inside them are not condusive to recharging.

It doesn't recharge the battery, not even if they're rechargable. We used to store regular batteries in our fridge for ages and then our handyman said it made no difference. So I think the theory is bunk. I'd keep them in a cool, dark and dry place like a cupboard, cabinet, drawer, etc...

Hi. No, but keeping a laptop battery in the refrigerator is supposed to increase it's lifetime.

In theory it might make a SMALL difference.

Todays batteries are built in such a way that they have extremely long shelf life.

It definitely does not discharge it. In theory, it should preserve them longer, but in reality it makes little difference.
