The only way to find out is that you should switch off your side's light and the other side should be bit brighter. The pen test will not actually help. Please read the following links to get more onfo on this.

Those sunglasses with the shiny mirror-like surface are the same thing as a two-way mirror, only with tinted glass.
If the glass is clear, the coating could be on either side, so the "pen test" would be invalid.
Truth is, you can't tell unless there is a source of light on the opposite side of the mirror.
If there is light on the other side, darkening your side (by any means) will allow you to see the light source from the other side.
Two way mirrors work either way, If the other side is bright, and your side isn't, those on the other side will see a mirror and you will be able to see through quite clearly.

If you put the tip of a pen against a regular mirror the images of the tips will have a gap between them. On a 2way mirror the two tips will be touching each other.

go up to the mirror, cover the sides of your eyes to make it dark and if they have the lights on, you should be able to see them
