It's unlikely but worth a shot.

I think there is a 100% chance they will work.
For Iran.
Their objective in such negotiations will be to delay while appearing to the World to be reasonable. I suspect that their friends in the media will ensure that they achieve this objective while giving nothing away.
The West has to negotiate, but there's very little chance that the West will come out ahead.

Question that needs to be answered first: How good are both parties at keeping their word?
1. Iran has repeatedly claimed it will not enrich uranium, then they enriched uranium. Probably not very trustworty.
2. U.S. has shown hesitancy in following international law or agreements. Probably not very trustworthy.
Since neither partner is trusted: simple answer is the negotiations will succeed if their are enough material incentives for Iran to follow. See North Korea for example of a nation following its material interest. They threaten to test nukes, U.S. gives them very advanced technology and money. See: Egypt for example of lasting peace as a result of U.S. aid. Since the late 70s, no violence or even threats against Israel, because the U.S. gives billions a year.
Answer: Negotiations succeed if U.S. pays. If we don't pay, we don't have the trust to get them to agree to anything.

Negotiations will work if both sides negotiate. Iran needs to be truthful in its negotiating, and the US needs to be willing to 'give some' as well.
Negotiating will work - and countless lives may be saved.

They will work if you can tell me how to negotiate with some one who does not believe you have a right to be alive and everyone who is not exactly like them should die?
The way I figure it, the various sects of Islam are killing each other because they are not exactly alike, so I say let them kill each other. If their logic is carried to its conclusion, there can be only one Muslim ever. No other Muslim or Human can believe like that individual.

He is only using the negotiations to buy time for his nuclear program. Negotiations only play into his plan.

You cannot negotiate with someone who won't be satisfied until they have taken over the world or been stopped by force

Yes, negotiations always work better.
Remember Nixon and his voyage to China.
