confident! is something that i'm lacking. How do u boost it? am just overly conscious, i've seen many who dress out of place. Wear things that dont suit them. I dont understand how they can still walk abt like they're perfect!

I'm sorry about your PCOS.

I know exactly what you're going through fashion-wise. I am 30, 5'7", and also wear a size 16. For the last few years I went through a fashion crisis. I was too old to dress like a teenager, but too young to start dressing like my mom. And I wanted to look nice. I want to look feminine, pretty, and professional.

Now, just because we wear a 16 doesn't mean we are banished to the fashion fat farm. You are 5'8"! In fact, in a lot of stores 16 isn't even plus size.

Kohl's has some really nice styles. Burlington Coat Factory always has a large assortment of styles. I really don't shop at Fashion Bug or Avenue or any of the other plus size stores because their fashions are designed for the very obese, and I am not that big.

If I were you, I'd play up my height. Go for fitted blouses (which will make you look slimmer and taller). Straight skirts that aren't tight are always attractive; they will slim your thighs and accent your height. In general, stay away from anything baggy or billowy (like those awful peasant skirts.)

It's also very important to wear clothes that fit well. Don't go too tight or too loose. Sometimes your bottom will be different than your top. My rule of thumb is that if I can see my lumps and bumps on my back, or my belly bulge in front, it's too tight.

As far as colors, it's a lot of fun to go to a store and experiment with different colors and patterns. Bring a bunch of floral tops to the fitting room and try them on over a solid bottom. Then try some solids of both tops and bottoms in a bunch of different colors. Mix and match. Try more professional looking patterns and see what you think.

Also try different fabrics. Try some rayon/poly blends and sheer fabrics.

Another trick I've learned is to keep your bottoms solid and your tops patterned. (Or both can be solid, too.)

I really hope that helps. I wish we lived close 'cause I'd go shopping with you!

I am 27, 5'9" and a size 18 - I shop at a place called Torrid, Lane Bryant and also online at GAP and old navy. They carry the sizes for us curvy girls... I think that you can do the 3/4 length sleevs or 1/2 sleeve to cover your amrs and choose fabrics that do not hug but go away from the body. Try to stay away from horizontal stripes and if you choose a pattern - make sure it is the same all over and not too bold.... you can always walk into any store and ask the sales person for some help in finding something that is a little out of your comfort zone. Don't trust the way clothes look on the hanger - just try them on until you find something that you like. Good luck! Also, every piece of clothing you put on looks better if you have a confident attitude. Have a good day!

Also - I know that most people think because you have some extra weight on that you MUST be unhealthy, that is not always the case. As long as your DOCTOR says you are ok then that is all you need to know.

There are tons of stylish clothing available right now to suit your needs :) The 70's type peasant tops and the baby doll type shirts will hide your tummy. Also, a lot of blouses right now are a little longer than normal. Thats a good thing! Wearing a blouse that comes between 2 and 5 inches below your pants line has a very slimming effect. Black is always slimming, but who wants to wear black everyday??

For jeans or slacks... don't wear classic cut!! They make your ankles seem really tiny, all while driving the eyes attention to your mid section. Try boot cut jeans, it will even you out quite a bit. Make sure they are your size! I see a lot of women wear jeans that are a few sizes too small, this causes their tummy and hips to fold over a bit on the waist line. Your pants should be comfortable, not too tight. Even if it means purchasing a larger size- no one will know, and it'll actually make you look thinner. Also, try the jeans or slacks with the wide waist line. They have them now that are about 4 inches, and usually have 3 buttons on them. Wearing something like that will distract away from your tummy area and make you look a little taller.
For your arms... try to stay away from spaghetti straps. If you like wearing sleeveless, opt for a wider strap. Or some of those cute cap sleeves, where the sleeve is there, just doesn't come down much past your shoulders. If you don't like wearing tank tops at all, then just go for something that isn't skin tight around your arms. A tailored blouse will work well, or those shirts with the 1/2 sleeves or 3/4 sleeves.
If you want to dress up a little more, I'd totally suggest a skirt!! A simple A-line skirt will suit you well. A skirt to wear everyday shouldn't be longer than knee length in the A line shape. I saw some at Walmart about a week ago (actually bought one) they had great colours and the waist band was thick (as mentioned above.) This type of skirt would be so slimming on you, as it would take the attention off of your thighs and waist.
Another thing you could do is layer your shirts. Very popular thing to do right now...Get a regular cotton blend shirt, a long one is best, and then buy one of those tank tops, long enough to show out the bottom of the first shirt.
The final and most important thing to do to look really great? Just be confident!! I've seen some tiny girls walking around like they are ashamed of how they look, and it makes them look icky. I've seen some larger women walking around like they owned the place, and they looked great!! If you like how you look in the morning, then let it show. Stand up straight, and smile and people will notice your smile and your confident long before they notice that you might be slightly out of style and have a few extra pounds. Good luck :)

Well, maybe I can help. I'm 14 and I look 20 unless I'm dressed my age... It depends on what your style is. You can never go the wrong way with mini skirts, stockings, converse or flats, and a nice top and designed scarf. Skinny jeans also do the trick, I'm more of the Emo/Goth/Scene type deal, but all styles these days are generally the same. Just... No cutsey dresses and flat Mary Jane shoes or any short sleeve tops with frills and smiley faces, wrong vibe, ya know? Plus, if you wear bows and stuff in your hair, pick cool designs, don't go over two. Ponytails count as well, not over two. Hope I helped.

Just a tip, stay away from clingy fabrics. That's probably one of the biggest mistakes people make, stick to flowy materials. And another thing, don't listen to whoever it was that said wear hollister. Seriously, what does the brand have to do with it?
Good luck!

You CAN wear anything you like. If you enjoy your clothes and wear them the way YOU feel comfortable with you'll feel great. And if you feel great you'll look great too!
Don't try to do anything you don't feel comfortable with - it will show on your face and that is what people are looking at. You might look at your thighs, arms etc. but others aren't interested - but they ARE interested in your personality - concentrate on dressing it up and showing it off.
I bet you look great!

if you have that is a good place for curvier women and they have young stuff that is in style, my sister is overweight and is happy with her clothing selection she is 15 .. a dress with a shall or jacket would be good for the arms and a color corresponding with the eyes and hair would be good with a non-revealing blubber issue with the legs... you go girl!!!
