YES! i got mine when i was in the 7th grade.. your parents might want to start you off on a pre-paird phone so you can prove that you are responsible enough( go phoones are cool)...and then move up to a plan....

Considering that a lot of places seem to be getting rid of their public phones (due to the overwhelming abundance of cell phones), I would say that yes it would be a good idea for you to have a cell phone.
Now, hang on a moment before you do all those cart-wheels because an adult and a father of one agrees with you.
You need to sit down with your folks and tell them exactly how responsible you will be with the phone. You should do some research as to what phone would be the most economical for your family. What plan, what sort of minutes, etc.
Go online. Sometimes there are companies that offer special phones for kids that are just used to call home and a couple other numbers. I seem to remember seeing a commercial one time for a phone that you could program to call like only 5 phone numbers. Like say you program it for home, your parents' work numbers and both their cell numbers.
I wish I could remember what that phone was called. I'm sure if you search online you can find all sorts of deals.
Good luck to you.

Maybe for your birthday, or for Christmas (whichever comes first) you can ask for a cell phone. When they say no, give them a list of reasons why you need (not "wants") a cell phone. Safety would be a good reason to start off with. If still told no, then accept it. Show them you are more responsible now by helping out around the house. If you get an allowance, offer to help pay for a cell phone's monthly charge and to be added to the family plan (minutes between family members are usually free, or get a prepaid phone and offer your allowance to be used to pay for it/replenish the minutes on it. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Hi there,
Wow you do alot! That's awesome.
A cell phone is a BIG responsibilty. You should ask your parents for a trackphone instead, which is a cell phone that uses limited minutes, (same thing as a phone card). You buy certain amount of minutes for the phone. That way your parents can keep track how much minutes you use in amount of time before minutes runs out, then buy more minutes. That way your parents don't worry about high cell phone bills, not that you would do that anyway.
Good Luck!

ask your parents for one of those "go phones" its a cell phone where you just pay as you go whenever you make one of those "emergency" calls hence, you dont have to go out and get a huge family plan or anythig of that sort.
otherwise, just always have some cash on you so you can use the payphone. often times, i use the payphone if i dont have my cell phone with me.
not having a cell phone isnt a big deal. if your parents dont believe you really need one, well, then they;re probably right.

That's a question for your parents since they're likely to be paying for it. I would say it's probably ok but just for real emergencies.
I don't have kids so I can look at these things objectively. My first question would be what are your parents objections? If their objections are that you're too young or it's too expensive you're not likely to get past that.
If it's about responsibility you could present them with the idea of a trial period to demonstrate that you can be responsible with it. If they say no... number one suggestion... Do Not Whine About It. Saying something like "Oh mooooom" or "That's not fair" is like telling they're right.
The problem there is that if they accept you actually have to prove you're responsible. Which means you can't even give your number to your friends.

Do you want it to chat with friends or relay messages to your parents?
I think that you need a cellphone. I don't think it matters so much if you DESERVE one, but I definitely think that with you being without much supervision, it's more of a NECESSITY. If you're out running around all these places without adults(Which I think you a little young for right now anyways, a lot of things can and DO happen) you should have some sort of communication device with you at all times.
Tell them the importance of this, and it may help.
Hope you get one!

Well, you can ask your parents you get you one of those cells that only let you call 4 pre programmed numbers and 911 or you can give a good speech for one. It doesn't matter how old you are, it matters on how your parents feel about you getting a cell phone.

The best way to show them you are responsible enough is to show you can pay the bill. At age 11, chances are the only way you can do that is if you get a job babysitting, cutting grass, etc. You can also plead your case to get a prepaid phone. The onlyproblem is - once you use your minutes - you are done. However, given that, if you show you are responsible and don't go over your minutes, maybe they will offer to pay for your regular phone.
