What conclusions could you draw from China’s construction of the Great Wall and the Silk Road about its relationship to other empire?

what i know of the great wall is that it isn't really a symbol of something majestic. for the chinese it is a symbol of a ruthless ruler, hardship, etc. that is because many people died during the construction of this structure.
