We returned after a weekend away and found that our fridge was barely cold and everything was defrosting. The lights do not work either when the fridge is opened. I would like to know what could be wrong and the possible causes before I decide to call a repairman. Thanks!

The electical socket could be malfunctioning. Take out the plug and try some where else. And check whether any fuse is located at the back of the fridge which could have blown. More than that, you cannot check anything more and you need to call a repairman.

Get an estimate first and if cost to repair the fridge exceeds the cost of replacing, Buy a new refridgerator. Sounds like you may have had a power outage while away or your condenser died.

check your breaker box and make sure you didnt blow that breaker. that would be a good place to start.
