I currently have 2 sticks of DDR 400 ram. The motherboard im buying (asus AM2) on newegg says it supports DDR 800. Will my old ram work in these slots?

No. Since it is socket AM2, it will use DDR2 memory. You left out the 2, but I assure you it says on the site it supports DDR2 800. Since DDR2 and DDR are not compatible with each other, it will not work.

The AM2 supports DDR2 800/667/553 type memory. If you have DDR 400 then this will not work as it is a different type of memory (DDR and DDR2 are different).

AM2 is a socket I believe for your processor. I'm probably wrong but i dont think that 2 sticks of DDR 400 = DDR 800.

Are you speaking about an AM2 slot motherboard? If so, you need DDR2 ram. Your old ram will not fit into the new motherboard.

RAM is usually backwards compatible but to ensure full compatability buy DDR 800 or try old then buy new

yes. it can support up to 800. so your 400 will be fine.
