How do I handle this, ive been on medication but it makes me lazy and i gain alot of weight, is there natural ways to combat bipolar, i hate living my life this way and hurting my friends and family.. i hate who i am and how i treat people when my bipolar starts cycling.. helpful advice

Well i have the same problem i have been on all the meds you imagine, been bakeracted and all. bad stuff dude, anyway, when i begin to get angry and moody, and yelling and fighting my mother in law gives me over the counter PMS pill, sounds funny but it helps, seriously go to walmart and check out premsyn i think its called basically if you don't want to be on meds for the rest of your life and you know its a cycle, and remember it will pass even if only for a while try to treat it like PMS...that way your not on meds everyday!!! also try to avoid chocolate and caffine when your in your mania stage or your depression stages...good luck...

I am not much of a med person myself. I don't have bipolar but I don't like taking any perscribed meds for whenever I get sick. There are a lot of things that you can do that are not drug related that might help with your bipolarness.

-Exercise seems to help a lot
-bettering your diet, there are some types of vitamins and foods that can help you feel happier (ie. binge eat on pasta (starch), or eat foods with fish oil)
-5HTP is a good natural drug that may help
-St. John's wort is another good natural path drug
-Going to see a psychologist would help a lot too if you are not against seeking help from a PHD

Hope this helps,
Suzanne

I also have bipolar and I am not taking any medications. One thing that really helped me was going to see a psychiatrist. I went through six years of medicines and counseling and learned how to cope very well with things. It will not make it go away but help you better understand and give you some coping mechanics.

People can't understand so I have cut my self off from everyone except those closest to me. I am able to send my girls to my moms when things are too bad for them to be around me. Or I stay to myself in my room. This is some horrible crap we go through huh? You could check in to a stress center if you feel too bad to cope. I know exactly what you are talking about, so much so, it's like I wrote your question. Have you tried wellbutrin? I take wellbutrin 300 it has been good for me as far as no weight gain or slowing me down. Actually I have lost 80 pounds.

There are so many new meds out for this disoder and many doctors are unaware of them. You should do some research yourself on line, and then go and have a more informed dicussion with your doctor. Don't let the side effects of one med discourage you from trying another that could help you and make a hugh difference in you and your family's life!! Good luck!

medicine is needed for treating bipolar affliction. Lithium, antidepressants + lithium (for the two depressive and manic warning signs), antipsychotic drugs like Olanzapine, and anticonvulsants like divalproex sodium (for treating acute mania) are used. regrettably, there is not any (lasting) treatment. And those drugs have very gruesome element consequences, particularly lithium, which could be poisonous. Psychosocial scientific care could be useful in help of the meds. affected person training helps them adjust to their meds. Cognitive scientific care relieves the depressive element of the affliction, if latest. relatives training complements sufferers' social help and helps preclude relapse via scuffling with the unfavorable expression of unfavorable thoughts interior the relatives (by using greater suitable communique). via will for meds, i could advise consulting a psychiatrist better than a psychologist.

I don't believe much in anti-depresses, but I do recognize that they have some benefits...

Alternatively I suggest you take nutrients that help or stimulate the production of endorphins and Serotonin (like Morinda Citrifolia Juice); These things, put you in a natural good mood....
