I'm not sure if this answers your question but I think kids today just miss out on the innocence of being a kid. Some parents try to push their kids to try learn more at an earlier age. While these parents push an education they forget about the importance of learning by discovery and exploration.Parents will try explain why the sky is blue, how evaporation works and how a rocket flies. In the meantime the child never has an opportunity to catch a firefly, fly a kite or catch a tadpole and watch it change. The words play and fun are bad words in some adult vocabularies. It is okay to have fun.We don't have to be competitive at age 4-5. It seems a child's day is filled with school, organized sports, social clubs, etc. When did life become so structured there is no time left for spontaneity?Just play the game, win or lose.It teaches the child how to lose and not give up,anyone can be a winner.Children are given grownup fears at a young age.I realize that it is not the same world as it was when as a child you didn't perceive danger at every turn.I know children must learn about these dangers but let's not make them fearful of life. I guess I just miss seeing kids given the freedom to just be kids, after-all they are little for such a short time.

Supervision!

The days of the one income household are all but gone (unless you are extremely lucky!) and kids are being left to fend for themselves in many cases. I don't think it's anyone's fault (both my husband and I work) but we need to figure out a solution so that are children are supervised. My son is only 2 and I am already worrying about who will watch him when he gets home from school in a couple of years and what I what I will do with him in the summer.

Kids now-s-days are lacking... Parental Guidance and RESPECT! Respect for their elders and respect for themselves.
A lot of parents don't know how to talk to their kids now-a-days and so they don't do it at all. They don't communicate to their kids and teach them right from wrong.
Another thing kids are lacking now-a-days is faith.

A positive role model, people are so involved in the lives of celebrities that we want to live like them. Look at our past president, Bill Clinton. Nowdays he is visiting schools teaching kids about living a good life. Seems a little hypocritical if you think about what he did.

Manners, a sense of responsibility and parental guidance. This is not all kids, but your question was very general so my answer is too.

Respect and Thoughtfulness. I am a teenager and it is so hard to find a respectful, thoughtful friend. i think i have only one guy friend who is truely respectful.

I think it is kinda rude how kids now say "yo whatsup" instead of "Hi, how are you?". Or instead of thinking a problem through, they punch someone to let off steam.
