I mean really does it matter whether your republican or democrat, shouldn't it only matter which candidate supports the most topics that you support?
Do people just affiliate with one political group just so they can say they belong to something?

I personally don't vote because Republicans and Democrats always win, its always 50/50, while I have no significant problem with each, i was just wondering why it all matters really?

Why vote the mafia and the power puts whomever they want in office.

You're crazy anything can be bought in this world even the presidency. You'll see thats how ure boy JFK got in office.

By not voting, you are allowing someone else to make your choice for you. THAT IS LAME. We have a 2 party system except for when some dumb-*** wastes a bunch of cash and time, knowing full well it would take a miracle for him to win. You pick the group that represents the MAJORITY of what you believe in. Republicans are to the right, democrats are to the left (generally speaking). Do some homework and figure out what that means. Although every candidate in my party does not always do what I want them to, for the most part, they definitely do more than the other party's guy would have.
If it makes you feel better, you can think of it as picking the lesser of 2 evils, how about that?

No. I totally disagree. If you have a basic philosophy that is best represented by one party or the other you should support that party. The reason is this. If you elect a president that is, say, independent , he will have no sway with the members of congress. In order to get your own philosophy in the position on of governance, you must have the Presidency and a large majority of both houses of congress all on the same side.

Political parties are designed to do just that. If they stop serving that function, they will be replaced by one that does.

To claim the mafia and power elect officials it just an excuse for inaction. The power is in the hands of you and me; We the People.

Great question! Have a look at

http://www.1party4all.co.uk

an opinion-polling website that promotes Direct Democracy and demonstrates how this would work in practice through electronic voting.

The answer is to have a 3rd party in the US that presents every item of policy in the form of a promise to conduct a referendum. Citizens, faced with this wealth of choice in the political equivalent of a one-stop policy shop, would then happily vote for this party in protest against the Republicans and Democrats.

If people start worrying about mob-rule, you can say it is balanced out by the principle of no representation without taxation, and greater representation with greater taxation.

This means that people who pay, say $US1,000 per year to the IRA will get 1 vote, $2,000 per year will get 2 votes etc.

A bit radical, but fair, and works on the same basis as Shareholder Democracy where shareholders have as many votes as they have shares.

We need diversity.
People have religious beliefs don't they?
SO why would we call all people Christians or Buddhist?
We call Buddhist Buddhist and Christan's Christians.
And why don't you vote?
It's your country and American is giving you an opportunity to vote for who YOU want to WIN, it's very selfish and rude not to vote..
A very bad citizen.
I say this sir, vote!
