A prep is a style, or a label.
Preps where polo's and dress stylishly.
They set trends.
Yes they tend to be popular, but prep isnt the only popular style.
It's basically just a name for people who dress in a certain style.
They are not all snobby, selfish, or spoiled.
A lot of people are jealous of them.
Its just a life style,
how they choose to dress,

this is not so easy to describe for you becuse the word preppy has changed into a bad word over the course of the last 20 years. Contrary to other answers here, preppy is not a trend setter. They basically dress the same way the have done since the 1970s. It is country club simplistic. Originated out of the New England area of the USA. think boston, massachusettes, or connecticut.
People now days consider being a preppy a bad thing and it is seen as being snobby like what you see in movies like Mean Girls, etc. It is not that at all.
Popular brands for a preppy are things like Ralph Lauren, LL bean, Brooks Brothers, J. Crew. NOT Abercrombie or Hollister etc. They are cheap knock offs frankly.
The traditional use of the word preppy was mean to describe people who attended college prepatory schools. Typically wore uniforms, and also things like khaki pants, sweater sets, polo shirts. Hung out at yacht clubs and golf courses. It was usually a reflection of money, but didn't need to be the only thing. typically used to describe a WASP.

A prep is most of the time a girl, but it can be a guy too. A prep is a person who thinks they're everything, they don't like to get dirty for one thing, and they're most of the time rich and are spoiled and get everything they want. They have expensive clothes and other things they own, all of it is expensive. And another thing about guys that are preps, it most of the time turns out that the guy is a pretty boy or acts like a girl. Thats a "prep".

A prep is like a girl or boy that dresses real preppy, like they wear pink, and have good style in my opinnion. I really dont know how to explain it that well. Sorry

Ok I hate to stereotype people but I will give you the defitnition of a prep
Prep- Someone who is upper class and close of being rich or is rich and dress's nice in expensive clothes. Also someone who shops at American Eagle, Aeropostale, Buckle, Holllister and of course Abercrombie and Fitch.
Not to also mention a prep is someone with a bad atitude at times and will pretend to be your friend.
That's a Prep...

a prep is someone who tends to be verry popular and are usually seen wearing "abercrombie and fitch" and "hollister" people tend to tie being popular into being wealthy because the cothing cost so much, usually about $ 50 dollars a shirt.

Well, in the place I live a "prep" is someone who shops at Abercrombie, Hollister, AE, and Aeropostale...kinda like me.

prep here means that they are very "country club like" and they wear pleated skirts and polo's ....lots of money....mom and dad are ever so rich...
not exactly abercrombie and hollister beacause that isnt preppy (its like sandiego and east coast laid back) Preppy clothing is like lacoste and polo ralph lauren...
