I keep reading questions and comments in which it is stated the the asker is willing to accept homosexuality (how nice of them) but doesn't want to hear about it, and doesn't understand why homosexuals have to talk about coming out and their sexuality all the time.
My question for these people, or anyone else is this, would women and black citizens have the right to vote, would black citizens have any rights for that matter if they had set quietly by and hoped someday someone would grant them those rights? The answer is an obvious and emphatic NO.
I am not gay but I join my voice proudly with everyone, gay and straight that call out for equal rights and acceptance for all citizens. We live in a nation that purports to grant equality to all. Our clamoring for that promise to be fulfilled does not make us un-American or immoral. These labels belong to those who attempt to deny the basic rights of citizenship and acceptance as persons.

JAX: Fair point, however I did not compare the movements. I did say, quite rightly that had black citizens remained silent they would not have achieved success. That was the extent of my comparison.

Mystine: Are you saying the government reserves the right to deny marital support rights, childhood adoption, medical next of kin rights and the right to prohibit legal marriage or union itself with every citizen? You maight want to look at these issues again.

May His Peace...: The bible condones slavery also. If you are going to base your opinions on OT theology then you should obviously also be against the end of slavery. Oh, and your rights as a woman, you'll need to give those up also.

That is correct, my Son. The only way to get one's rights is to keep asking and to keep fighting for them. The doophi in Washington are hoping we don't notice our rights going away.
As for Gay Rights, we need to fight for Our own Equality just as hard as the Ladies did as the Turn of the Century and the Blacks did in the 50's and 60's. We need to Fight until we get them
Right now if my partner was to become seriously ill (and without power of medical attourney) her family and the hospital could keep me from her sick bed, keep me out of any decision making regarding her care, and keep me from any decision of the funeral etc.... Ask Madame Rose P what happened if you get the chance. She and her partner were married 42 years and it all came crashing down because we have no rights.
We do need to stand up for ourselves, and have every legal right our Hetero Sisters and Brothers have. We're no different except that we love our own sex. As for religion, let that stay out of the Law. God and I keep religion out of our relationship (it works better that way).
Bless us all.

Let me just say that when the KKK came to my town to march I had no problem with it. If they are not being violent or inappropriate they have every right to march in their parade. What do I care? If I took that away from them I would be no better. I definitely don't agree with them or their beliefs but I don't get to pick and choose who gets to apply their rights as a US citizen. I feel the same way when people say that the Gay Pride Parades are wrong. I personally love them but even if you don't, get over it. If I could let a bunch of pig headed hillbilly's who used to hang people walk down my street you should be give other people the same courtesy.

I don't think we're wrong in any way shape form or manner. This government is supposed to be by the people, for the people. We have a voice. It's up to each on of us if we use that voice or not. I'm proud to say that I use my voice. A lot. If we want true equality, then we have no choice but to fight for it. America fought for the freedoms we have to use our voice. Now it's time to thank those brave men and women by honoring them by using the voice they fought and died for.
We will achieve true equality one day. But it's going to be a hard fought victory. We will win though.

Indeed, no one ever got their rightful due by sitting quiet and praying for supermen to come and save the world. Had Martin Luther King Jr. not had a dream, and a voice to share that dream with millions, many would have been denied the freedom they deserved. Had Gandhi not stubbornly stood by his non-violent protests, a nation's people would still be serving another's. Were it not for suffragettes, would women ever be able to vote?
Wherever people are denied their rights, they need to raise their voice, and no sovereign power can ever overrule the will of it's people.

To Mystine above. What magical place do you live in that homosexuals are given all the same rights as other people? We are not allowed to marry. In some states some sexual practices which could be considered discriminatory to gays are illegal. AND it's not illegal to fire someone or deny them certain other privileges just because they are gay. So, please tell me this magical place you live in that gives us all the same rights. I would like to move there.
To the actual question-asker. Thank you for supporting our community. We need more openminded people like you on the "opposite team".

I agree that if you say nothing laws will never change, and in my opinion it is stupid for this country to deny Gay people the rights of humanity that has been extended to all other citizens, but you can't compare the Civil Rights movement with the Gay Rights Movement. It's not the same thing. There are different factors at play here.

Toffeefan, your questions are not only thought-provoking but in an excellent English. How exciting! I will answer by saying no, gay citizens are not wrong and as to why they are not wrong: You are saying it so eloquently... What more to say. Other than, let's hope for more and more people to realize these anti-gay, anti-black, anti-this, and anti-that are completely absurd.
I agree 100% with you, people don't change things by staying inside their homes, waiting for the change to occur. As far as using the bible to justify one's opinion: I am almost always amazed on how irrelevant these answers are.

I am black and I can say the civil rights movement along with the gay rights, go hand and hand...rights were not afforded to blacks based upon the color of their skin, and rights are not afforded to gay people based upon their sexual preference.
People have the argument that yes, gay people can marry, they just have to marry someone of the opposite sex. That's absurd...we should be able to marry who we choose to marry...we should not face discrimination of any kind from anyone...

Telling the fact approximately your very own life mutually as asked, changing a warm smile with your companion on the comparable trip in public, and stressful an attractive out environment for our babies all it sounds as though qualify as "shoving" it of their face. surely, complimenting someone of an identical gender on their look qualifies as an undesirable sexual strengthen. And, to disagree mutually as somebody makes a homophobic remark- and clearly, to speak on the area with some element in spite of the undeniable fact that contempt and scorn- is an identical of waving a rainbow flag of their face. as quickly as we effectively ask for an identical tax and social risk-free practices advantages as every person else, for the reason that we pay in in simple terms as lots, we are stressful "different rights". And, as quickly as we ask for an identical wellness coverage advantages for a companion that married couples working for an identical corporation acquire, so he or she can save domicile to lift the youngsters we've already have been given, we are attacking the "sacred" college of marriage and using up the divorce value for heterosexuals. in different words, some element wanting mendacity approximately our person life, keeping our mouth close adult males and females human beings demean and belittle others, and ignoring the reality that we are required to subsidize "the heterosexual way of life", is flaunting it. curiously, this is the non secular suited's definition of "morals and values", and it sounds as though easiest "spectacular families" have importance and are needed of society's protection and help.
