Break their ages into parts - Sid has 4 parts, Jim has 2 and Bob has 1. In total there are 7 parts. Each part must be 152 divided by 7 = 21 and 5 sevenths. 5 sevents of a year is 365/7*5=260days approx.
Jim has two parts which is 42years and (260days x 2 = 520 which is equal to 1 whole year and 155 days. Therefore Jim is 43 and 155 days old.

Thats a poor question. I understand "half again as old" to mean that Jim is one and one half times as old as Sid. And Bob is one and one half as old as Jim. But it could certainly be written clearer.
If I am correct about the question:
X = Sids age
I used Sid because he is the youngest.
1 1/2 X is Jims age
Bob is 1 1/2 as old as Jim so:
1 1/2 (1 1/2 X) is Bobs age
The formula is:
X + 1 1/2 X + 1 1/2(1 1/2 X) = 152
get rid of the ( )'s
X + 1 1/2 X + 2.25 X = 152
combine
4.75 X = 152
divide both side by 4.75
x = 32
Sid is 32
Jim is 48
Bob is 72

I won't give you the answer (that would be cheating, of course).

But here's how to get started.

Use variables: "B" for Bob's age; "J" for Jim's age: "S" for Sid's age. That will make it simpler.

"Half again as" means "one and a half times". You can write this as "1.5 ·", since "one and a half" is the same as 1.5.

So, if you wanted to express the sentence, "Bob is half again as old as Jim," you could write it like this:

B = 1.5 · J

I'll leave it to you to figure out how to express the two other sentences: "Jim is half again as old as Sid," and "Their total age is 152"

That will leave you with three equations and three unknown variables. If you know how to solve simultaneous equations, you can then find the values of all the variables. If you DON'T know how to solve simultaneous equations, it's time to get off the Internet and hit those books.

the closest i have worked out is 87, 43 and a half, 21 and 9 months, which would give a total of 152 years and 3 months.

let bob's age=x then jim's age=2x and sid's age = 4x

x+2x+4x=152
7x=152
x=21.7142857 >>22 < 2x= 43.4265714 >>43 < 4x=86.8571428 >>87 <
22+43+87=152

b = (3/2)j
j = (3/2) s

b + j + s = 152

Substitute a couple of times and you will have everything in terms of s, then you can solve for j (Jim's age).

"Half again as old" means 1.5 times as old.

B=1.5 J
J=1.5 S
So... B=2.25 S

S + J + B = 152.
S + 1.5 S + 2.25 S = 152.
4.75 S = 152
S = 32
J = 1.5 S = 48
B = 1.5 J = 72
