You can run a free test at http://www.crucial.com and find out what kind of RAM (memory) your computer needs. It will automatically test your system and tell you what you need and have in the computer (each slot).

You can get cheap memory at http://www.tigerdirect.com or http://www.newegg.com

Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://speeduppc.info
lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!

You can usually get to the ram by popping a cover off your laptop. Look at how many slots it has (your 256 meg might be one stick or it might be a pair of 128 meg sticks). If you have an empty slot, then just take the old stick down to the computer store, and get another one like it to put in the empty slot. If you don't have any slots you will have to replace both sticks (or just replace one with a bigger stick).

Yes you can 256mb RAM is nowhere near enough for the type of applications you want to Run.
Laptop PC's usually have 2 Memory slots.
I recommend you increase the RAM to 1024mb.
Thats 2x 512mb sticks.
You can go online to Crucial Memory Detector to check out the type of RAM you need.

Hope this has been helpful.

exciting. You computing gadget does positioned up (skill on self try) curiously because of the fact which you suggested you could push f2 and f12 in the time of the boot up technique. or perhaps it would not end that is positioned up. Did you eliminate any static develop on your physique till now touching the ram? not too particular what went incorrect although. walking some boards could answer your question.

After you don what Samuel Adams suggested--look to see if you have any more open ram slots inside your pc.Also if you have enough free space on your hardrive and are using windows xp you can turn up your virtual ram.--try this--click start--control panel--system--advanced--click on performance settings--advanced--virtual memory--change---mine is set at 2046 to 8184 click set then click ok.

Check the manual that came with your computer. It will tell you how much you can have in your computer.

And then you can buy the chips and put them in yourself.
