I was running about 9 months ago when I stepped on my foot wrong and I heard this cracking noise. I decided to just run off the pain and the pain was gone after a little while. A few hours later when I got home the outside of my foot was swollen (where the bone that sticks out is) and my foot felt a little numb. The next morning there was bruising along the side of my foot. I just waited for it to get better (since I had no money for a doctor) and there was not really a problem because there was no pain. Ever since it healed though it makes this popping noise often when I walk, like when you first get up in the morning and they crack like that. It is been going on for months and has become embarressing when I am walking in a quiet hallway with people and my ankle cracks with every step. Is there anything I can do to stop the popping???

See a doctor. You damaged something inside and that may be cartiledge popping or bone rubbing...either way, it's not a good thing and should be addressed. You should not have continued to run on the foot after you heard the "pop".

Take care of your body...you only get 1 in this lifetime and appendage transplants haven't been perfected yet.

I know how you feel.. I can't afford a doctor, either.

Do some stretches to help strengthen the muscles around the injury- that should help hold it in place while it heals. Wrap an ace bandage around it, and use it as little as possible for the new few weeks. You need to give it time to heal itself, and the only way to do that is by not using it. No running for a while.. sorry!

I'm a runner and my ankle makes very similar popping/cracking noises on occasion as well. You have probaly sprung your ankle and are developing some arthritis in your ankle that is very normal. Do not concern yourself with this injury. If this were serious you would have not overcome the pain as you so stated.

I'll bet you have a credit card, you can actually charge a medical bill if you have to.

My guess is you broke a bone or did major damage. The popping tells you IT IS NOT FIXED !!!!! GO TO THE DOCTOR AND GET XRAYS, UNLESS YOU A LOOKING FORWARD TO CRUTCHES, A CANE OR A WHEEL CHAIR.
