Hello,
(ANS) I had the exact same problem myself with a compaq V75 CRT monitor few months ago, much to my surprise many charities wont take old monitors (like Oxfam, etc). I also advertised my monitor for free (buyer collects) on a local free-bee website called gumtree Leeds. But no! takers, schools don't even want such items now either.
I suggest the best way to responsibly recycle your old monitor is to send or give to a charity that specializes in IT recycling.
No.1 Have a look at "Computer Aid International" they are based down south in the London area. I know they recycle all the IT equipment they get from donations and the computers etc are then sent to educational projects in Africa.
No.2 There is now a national network of charities similar to computer aid international across the UK. There may even be one locally to yourself, again contact computer aid for further details of local IT recycling charities.
No.3 If you want to send old equipment for recycling C.A.I have special rates for deliveries.
No.4 If you run a quick yahoo or google.co.uk web search you will find computer aids website (sorry! don't have the URL to hand).
Hope that helps?
Ivan
**PS: DON'T whatever you do just take the monitor to the local council refuse tip because it wont get responsibly recycled or handled correctly. i.e. no! green brownie points :-((

If the monitor is working ok you could try a charity shop but some will not take electrical goods. If not you can take it to your local Council tip and hand it in for recycling

I had a load of previous huge video demonstrate contraptions at artwork that we necessary rid of. I used freecycle - provided them for unfastened if somebody got here and took them away - all of them went (alongside with keyboards, an previous fax and a couple of printers). this is a huge thank you to eliminate stuff which you do not choose that remains useable. One guy's trash is yet another guy's treasure. I signed as much as my close by freecycle group in the time of the yahoo communities function.

Try the yahoo freecycle.org group. Its a kind of charity thing where you post a message saying you have stuff you dont need and someone with the need will come and take it of your hands. Thats how I got rid of a lot of larger stuff (ie not ebay worthy) that we replaced.

Try contacting a school or church in your area. Someone out there can use it.
