Visit an online RAM seller such as crucial.com that has a free system scan available on their site. Run the scan. The scan will tell you:

- How much RAM is currently installed in your computer
- The maximum amount of RAM your computer can use
- Which of your RAM slots are being used, and which ones are empty
- What RAM chips the site sells which are compatible with your computer

When you order RAM from the site, they should also include installation instructions and/or have instructions available online so you can print them out. It's not hard, though; installing RAM is one of the easiest upgrades there is, if your computer is a desktop.

If you don't want to buy from Crucial (or if you can't for some reason), you can go ahead and use the scanner anyway. It's free. Then you know what you need to buy, and you can go shopping around at some other places for the best deal on RAM for your computer. Good luck!

Do some research to see what kind of ram your motherboard can use--if you buy the right kind it just plugs right into its slot. Dont touch the gold leads but press it in firmly till you can close the clips that lock it in. Also make sure to touch your case before you do anything inside your pc--this eliminates static electricity that can harm your pc. Also blow out any dust inside your pc tower--this should be done about twice a year.
