The Libby Legal Defense Trust, backed by former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and other prominent Republicans, has raised more than $5 million to help Libby defray his legal costs, The Politico has learned, with contributions of as little as $5 coming from grass-roots conservatives.

Mary Matalin, the vice president’s former counselor, wrote direct-mail letters raising more than $1 million, and she has promoted a Libby fundraising website during her frequent radio and TV appearances.

Perjury - a conservative republican Value
Members of the party of responsibility and integrity do not want to be held responsible for anything and have absolutely no integrity. And to think they used "no underlying crime" to fire up the base, to justify a republican party leader's lying to a federal prosecutor.

Oh, if there were no underlying crime why did scooter HAVE to lie?

Think of the dirt that old Scooter has in his head.

They are probably terrified that he will start talking.
of course if he starts talking I bet he is dead within
a week.

Scooter lied and OBSTRUCTED justice. This is not a misdemeanor.

Once again we have to pull Clinton out.
Clinton was corrupt so its okay to continue the B*llsh*t.

WHY DON'T YOU PEOPLE USE A ARGUMENT OTHER THEN BILL CLINTON. HOW HYSTERICAL.

Brydog:

"Scotter Libby received an unfair punishment for an act that should have only meritted a 50 hour community servce punishment along with 6 months probation. So he lied to a grand jury, so what. Bill Clinton lied to everyone on national television and got nothing other than his law liscense revolked"

Are you a moron? Bill Clinton got impeached as a president. Plus, he was lying about his personal life, not about the cause of a war that has claimed 3000 American lives and over 350 billion dollars.

"Sandy Berger was allowed to take classified documents home and destroy them in violation of almost every national security law on the books and got no jail time.

People need to focus on the upcoming elections and get off the Bash Bush Bandwagon."

Do you even know why he was on trial?

Do you even know what they were investigating?

They were investigating several people for the release of the information that Valerie Plame, wife of weapons inspector Joseph Wilson, was a secret agent, thus ruining her career.

WHY WAS THIS INFORMATION RELEASED?

Because someone from the Bush Administration revealed that when they got mad at Joe Wilson. Joe Wilson went looking for the weapons Bush said Saddam had, and found nothing. Bush continued to insist the Saddam had WMD. Joe Wilson starting speaking out about this, and Bush didn't like it. When Wilson revealed that Bush was lying, suddenly his wife's career was over.

It is illegal to release this info, and someone from inside obviously did.

They investigated many people like Scooter Libby. He was not convicted of actually releasing the information (most think Cheney did) but Scooter lied about dates and times and when he first heard about the news of Plame.

So he gets the blame. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe it was a cover up. However, he did give incorrect information under oath.

As for Fred Thompson, God knows why!

Libby's the fall guy. What can he do? Implicate his boss and he's road kill. The guy I trust least in this is the reporter fellow, with a smirk.

Oh as for thompson, practice, practice, practice....

Libby and Cheney simply were trying to undermine the credibility of the man who exposed there were no wmd's being prepared in Iraq, and, it backfired. Cheney, Rumsfield, and company were bush league amateurs who have really messed with the country.

I garantee you that Scooter Libby will get pardoned before BUsh leaves office; the man was railroaded on false accusations. Valerie Plain was some stupid desk jockey at Langley and not a field agent, so there was no crime commited.

The Libby trial is a witch hunt to try to smear the President, since they can't get the Pres with the fact, they fabricate stuff and sling it to see if it sticks.

The Israeli Zionists that are running our government is making that shill Fred Thompson do it. If he wants money from AIPAC to run for president then he better jump when AIPAC tells him to.

Scooter lied to cover up the fact that this whole Valerie Plame leak case leads straight back to the fraud of the Iraq war and the obvious fraud of 9/11.

FACT!

He didn't lie. If your asked what you said two years ago, then compare it to what someone else heard you say two years ago, what are the chances it will be the same thing? Very clever tactics by Soviet prosecutor Fitzgerald. I have a question for you, if there was no crime, WHAT THE HECK WAS Fitzgeral investigating?
