It sure can .. I think the proper ratio is 14:1 ( air & fuel) if this gets out of adjustment due to dirty air filter it can hurt your fuel milage , loss of power , ses (service engine soon lite) or just general loss of performance. The air filter should be checked @ ever oil change & replace as necessary .
If your car has an mass air flow sensor stay away from the the rechargable air filters such as K&N . It may damage the MAF sensor or cause drivibilty problems.

Yes.The fuel system is adjusted by the correct mix of air and fuel.A dirty filter will through that mix out of sync and you will lose power, use more gas and in the long run cost you a lot more money than a new filter.

A dirty air filter restricts flow and causes the engine to work harder to pull air through the filter. You can test the effect by breathing through your mouth normally, and then try breathing through a cotton sheet.
WARNING: grasp the sheet firmly so it do not breath it into your mouth and have someone with you in case the sheet becomes stuck where you cannot remove it yourself.

it sure can and not only that but it will make it suck down the gas. engines has to be able to breathe for it to run right, and while your at it, clean the throttle body, with some throttle body cleaner, you can get it at auto zone or any parts dept.
