My engine consumes more oil than it should while it does not even emit smoke either black of blue, it does leak little on the head cover but very minimal. I believe the engine is now blowby but how does it comsume too much oil without smoke? One litter of oil to 1000 kilometers or one litter a week.

You may have loose or out of spec. valve guides. Blue smoke will appear out your tailpipe on deceleration if this is the case. A compression check will be able to test the condition of piston rings and cylinder walls.

Before spending a lot of money on your motor change the oil and use the new Texaco oil and supplement the final quart / liter with Rislone. It's a very high detergent product which cleans piston ring grooves, lifters and black sludge build up.

If I were you I'd change the valve cover gasket and you'll see exactly how clean or dirty the top of the cylinder head is.

If you do this in a shop its a great time to check valve stem to valve guide clearances. Simply remove a spark plug and compress the cylinder at top dead center with an air chuck. Remove the two valve spring retainers, caps and valve springs. Set up a dial indicator on the valve stem and attempt to move it back and fourth if there is an excess of .004 thousandths of movement new valve guides are in order.

Are you using your horn a lot? Using the horn can eat up a lot of oil... Especially if your car has doors. Also the turn signals and alternator may be out of alignment. Slam the hood a few times with the emergency brake on and see if this helps. If all else fails, leave the interior light on when driving and replace the hubcaps more frequently.

you would be surprised how much oil is lost by just a little leak, especially while your driving. did you look in the coolant, it could be going in there, and if it is, guess what, you either have a head gasket leaking or a cracked head, lets hope it not a cracked head.

you can tell if it is burning oil by inserting your finger into the exhaust tail pipe and wiping the inside (make sure it is cool). If your finger is black then it is burning oil. If it is grey it is not burning oil.
