Most of the time you can go to the family planning clinic and they give it to you based on income. It could even end up being free, so it's something to look into

I suppose it would vary from what state you live in to the type of birth control you're asking about. Like the others said, you may be able to enter a program for free or reduced cost options. Condoms are pretty cost effective unless you have huge amounts of sex. Where I live most standard types of "the pill" cost about $40 per month, but the newer types that reduce the number of periods are about $60. I also heard that people have had problems with the "depo shot." I have an "IUD," there are two types, hormonal and copper. The copper lasts for up to 10 years and it costs about $400 plus 2 visits (one for follow up) to your GYN. The other one lasts for 5 years and costs the same. I chose the IUD because I got pregnant with twins while on "the pill, " but I suppose that was just one of those fluke things because it is proven to be effective. I just didn't want to take any chances after that. Abstinence is the cheapest and MOST effective way to not get pregnant or diseased.

Depo without insurance was $40 for me. Like others said, a LOT less than it takes to raise a kid.

I would not recommend the depo shot for anyone. I was on it for four years and am so glad I am OFF of it. There are so many negative side affects. I am much happier on the pill Kariva.

Whatever it costs its less than a baby! Check with your local clinics sometimes you can get birth control pills cheap or free based on your income. Generic scrips don't cost that much anyway. I wouldn't do the shot, I know quite a few people that got the shot and had major problems later on.
