No branding but there needs to be more done to let the public know of these sex offenders. Regulation and detailing is needed. Imagine a sex offender registry that doesn't separate pedophiles from those that are not. Imagine you waste time focusing on the wrong offender while the real culprit gets away. Something needs to be done.
In this system we have (this is a real case) a rapist with HIV can go free from a violent crime because the victim claimed they could defend themself. That attempt at vain masculinity allowed a HIV-ridden rapist to go free and go after innocent women.
In retrospect, maybe they should be branded...

I think tattoos would be a bit more in order. Any sex criminals, most especially crimes against children need to have the names of the full crimes tattooed over their whole foreheads. "Child molester", "rapist", "wife-beater", "murderer" would be nice to have a "heads up" if you get my double pun there.
Further, I also think that certain types of criminals that cannot be rehabilitated (pedophiles, child crimes, rapists) need to be put to death. They cannot be fixed, they are a menace to decent society, they waste our tax dollars, lay in wait to reoffend if they are not already doing so; and our children and women need to be protected.
Other types of crimes, I feel there are ways to rehabilitate those people. I think that a mugger could be down on his luck and is someone who could be rehabilitated so not this type of crime.
Oh, and by the way, I am a liberal. However, I am a mother more.

Well, if justice was done my way, there wouldn't be a need for branding since all rapists and molesters would never be let out of prison. A quota of "accidental deaths" within the walls of the prison would help curb overcrowding.

For Pedophiles I could definitely accept an idea like that, although it would be unnecessary if we would just keep them in jail where they belong. Unfortunately we have to save the jail space for the non-violent drug offenders that make up the lions share of people in our prisons. But until this country gets some concept of priorities about who belongs in our prisons it seems we might need some way to identify those who people might want to stay away from. Might not be able to get the branding idea passed though,so I propose a tattoo on the face in a location where it can't be hidden, listing their crimes and times of incarceration.

Slave camps for criminals would be better .
Force them to build roads and homes for the poor . 5 years at hard labor might change their minds and if not then life in the camps working for honest americans providing laundry services license plates and other goods and services .
Attach a device that blows a good chunk of their head apart if the leave the restricted area .

It would be a great idea but it wont happen as long as there solicitors banging on about their human rights being infringed.
Same they don't harp on as much about the victim, but then as I understand it the pay on offer is better for defending scum rather then prosecuting them

yes. they would be easily identifiable to the public and it would be a suitable punishment. Lets face it, jail is no deterrent-maybe this would have more of an effect!

Yes by all means let's brand that stuff on offender's foreheads. And while we're at it lets brand BS for Bad Speller on your forehead.
