Learn the menu items. Learn to make change without using the machine, then you won't have to do that blank stare when people don't get the right change. Always remember that if there were no customers, you wouldn't have a job, so don't act like the customers are ruining your day by ordering food.,

Fast food places are great for learning how a business works. You've already gotten some good advice on how to do a good job. If you really want the experience to pay off, try to figure out WHY things are done the way they are. If you get a chance, ask. You may shock your manage, as it may be the first time someone has asked that kind of question.

Learn more than just cleaning grill hoods and filtering fryers and running registers. Learn the systems behind the tasks. It will make you a better employee when you move on. It may even make you a better business owner, if you lean that way.

Whatever happens, good luck to you...

Always show up neat and clean. Listen a lot, ask questions if you don't know something. If it's busy and something's running low, offer to get it from the stock room. You may get stuck filtering fryers and cleaning vent hoods for a while. Wear non-slip comfortable shoes. If you don't know what to do, start cleaning something or wiping something down. "If you've got time to be leaning, you've got time to be cleaning." You'll probably hear that a lot. Otherwise just pay attention to the bosses, smile to the customers even if it kills you, and pay attention to other peoples' jobs there, it shows you can pick up on things and you'll get promoted.

Good luck!

Do a lot more listening than you do talking. The more you listen, the quicker you will learn what needs to be done. If you're in a position where you deal with customers face to face, remember that even if you're having a bad day, it's your job to make the customer feel welcome in the restaurant that you work. We are all bound to mess something up, just remember that we all make mistakes and that just about anything you do in a fast food restaurant won't be the last thing you ever do in life. Good luck!

Just do what your supervisor asks, don't goof off. And pay attention. And finally don't get involved in any B.S. with other employees. Thats not to say that you can't enjoy it. But I would learn my job and know that you are there to work and if others around you want to have a crappy attitudes that's on them and if your co-workers are unhappy then maybe they should have stayed in school or should have gone to college. I have a friend that worked for Mc Donalds when we were in high school. she worked there all throughout college and now is a regional Vice President. I am just telling you that so you do know that hard work and dedication does pay off.

Rember to smile and be friendly. You are never going to be able to please everybody, from time to time your going to get people in there that are rude, and argumenative. Just be polite and if they become to much of a problem get your manager and rember its not your fault. Try and be as speedy as you can but you dont have to run or anything. You will probably here this one alot if you are slow and dont have anything to do "If youve got time to lean youve got time to clean" They want you to look busy even if your not. Good time ot refill cups, napkins, condiments, and make kiddie meal sacks. Its really not hard after a few days youll be a pro.

Just take your time. Don't expect to go out there and wiz around like someone that has been doin it for a long time. Learn everything you can and talk to the others that you will be working with to learn the tricks of the trade. Oh, and watch out for the deepfryer, leaves scars, lol.

Take a deep breath and relax, what they gonna do take away your birthday if you mess up? Be nice to your customers even if they are incredibly rude or mean. Remember it's just your job not your life. Good Luck

eat chicken nuggets when the manager isn't looking, and tell rude customers to pi$s off! then go back to the stockroom and eat more food! take drive thru orders with a fake accent, too. that's always fun.
