when i was younger we would hitch hike all over the place. not now though, bit scary. i have picked up a few hitch hikers though when i haven't been on my own

I hitch hiked in New Zealand in 1997, it was an amazing experience. We where doing what would have been about a five hour journey by coach, we got picked up as soon as we left the hostel, the guy was going the same place as us. He was a really nice guy, chatted all the way, then when we got to the new hostel in Hastings and it was full he drove us around till we found a hostel with room. The whole journey ended up being much quicker than what the coach would have been. I was travelling with someone, don't know about hitching on my own.
Give credit to the kiwi's I found them to be very friendly, welcoming and I would recommend New Zealand to anyone.

I used to hitch hike everywhere about 14 years ago when i was 15, i was lucky i never had any bad experiences but i wouldnt dare take that risk know, i dont think the world is any more dangerous than it was then i just realise now that im older and wiser that i was very lucky back then.

I used to hitch with my first husband and baby daughter many moons ago. Most experiences were great but one time we were hitching to London and got a lift off a lorry driver. We were driving through the night and he was fantastic. Not long before London we passed an airforce base and pilots were out on manouevers. One idiot kept dive bombing the lorry and it was all the driver could do to keep it on the road. It was terrifying!

yes I have and no I wouldn't do it again. Well not unless I absolutely had to for some reason. Too many dangers out there aside from the fact when you are standing at the side of the road you are likely to get hit by some div in a lorry!

in the 70's I hitched from Pa to Arizona with two friends, and no way would I do it today. But it was alot of fun...but times were different then.

yeah i was trying to get a wride to the gas station. my friend's dad picked me up and i had to hold a baby posem. it was so cute.
