I'm proud to be an American and anybody who isn't proud should leave the country. Yes we do have problems in the country but every one does. You have millions and millions of people living here and you can't expect to please them all. Other countries citizens wanted to come here is proof that this country is so much better than any other one.

America is the RICHEST nation on earth, and that is why there is a long line to come here. I have seen many come, make their fortunes and return to their native country. It is not for democracy that they come, because democracy does not exist here, or anywhere for that matter and most intelligent people know that. America is a capitalist state where money speaks louder than anything. I was born and raised here, and I know that. Simply because people of other nations don't live here, doesn't mean they cannot see this. America, is the place currently to make your fortune, it would be silly not to want to come here. And frankly, I have no problem with that, it just makes our economy that much stronger. I have a problem with those who come only to suckle on the government tit at my expense tho, those who come here to work, but do not pay taxes to support the very infrastructure they demand the right to use. Instead they send their profits out of the country further draining instead of adding to an economy that makes it possible for them to work and make money in the first place. This can not be allowed to continue, for they will indeed bleed us dry.

First we have to be accountable, we have laws on the books let us start to obey them and enforce them or change them.
Then we have to block off the borders.
America is nothing like it was say like when I was growing up. Jobs were abundant and people were hired on the spot, no resumes and 2nd interviews. The plants were hiring and generations worked there, sometimes the whole family. Homelessness was not an issue and neither were all the drugs. Most of all our education system was on a much higher level.
The country has dropped a few steps on the world stage. Simply because people want to come here does not mean we are that great just that were they are coming from was really that screwed up. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Poor in America or Poor in Iran. That is a no brainer.

people want into america because they still believe that it's a better place than where they're from - the grass is greener syndrome. the problem is that "democracy" has failed - this society no longer practices democracy, and most of the citizens who have never had to do anything for this country take it for granted. so, the elected officials can push for any bill they wish, they can vote in any direction, and "we the people" take it. i served in the u.s. army for 8 years. the total embracement of apathy during that time that this country has displayed has replicated ten-fold. there are better alternatives - countries that focus on their domestic problems before sticking their probiscus into others. i long for the day when we'll all be one country, we'll all be one nationality, we'll all be treated as one race and we'll all have a voice that can be heard and speaks with a global responsibility.

I do sometimes find it embarrassing to call myself an American. This nation has done so many terrible and inexcusable things. And not just now, I'm talking about WAY back with "Manifest Destiny" and even further.
As for a positive change? Pehaps we shuld stop pretending we're the World Police and instead actually HELP other countries even if it doesn't benefit us. Right now I think that this country is just so filled with hate and other nasty things.

If America would live up to its own standards and ideals, it would not be so hated in the world. If we withdraw from the war of aggression in Iraq, restore constitutional rights at home and in our prison system abroad, and stop sanctioning the use of torture, it would be a good start.
