Yes, but it depends on the shelf what the lifespan would be. Not all shelves are wood, therefore it goes without saying that a metal shelving unit would have a longer life cycle than a wood unit no matter how well the wood is assymbled. As to an exact time span for each type of shelf it would be impossible to say without knowing all the extenuating circumstances.

There are a few shelves in the house where I live that are
older than me. The shelves look good so they may out-last
me. I guess the shelf life would depend on lots of things.

Shelves can never die...they can be repaired, resurfaced (kinda like plastic surgery for shelves) until they look like death but they will never expire...they do however do a darn good impression of playing dead though- the stiff as a board thing and all.

Some longer than others - depends on what the shelves are made from it they have been treated with preservative and also if they are inside the home or outside.

everything does nowdays, I bought a bottle of spring water the other day. It had been filtered through volcanic rock over thousands of years but it still needed to be drunk before august 2008. lucky Evian got it in time eh?
