Komodo dragons are indeed still very much alive, tho endangered, they are indigenous to south east asia and the islands extending into the south Pacific, the only Komodos you would find in Africa would be those purchased and placed in zoos.

They are still alive and well, although civilization is encroaching upon them. They need a wide range to support their large appetite. They are not found in africa, but in Sothern Asia on Komodo Island
