Yellowstone National park is very large and its a long distance between the main attractions. The drive is on a two lane road with just a few places to pass campers and mobile homes. The drive through the park is kinda shaped like a figure eight (8) with the main attractions being on the west side of the park. Then you really need to see the Grand Tetons National Park which is on the South Entrance of Yellowstone. If you have a choice of how you leave the park I do recommend the Northeast exit which goes over Bear Tooth Gap. Very scenic.

There are lodges and cabins in Yellowstone and also in the Grand Tetons Park which is just south of Yellowstone. However, the places book up really quickly. You can try this web site: http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/lodging-in-yellowstone.htm

But I think your best bet will be to stay in a motel in West Yellowstone, Montana. That town is just outside the park boundary (half a mile) on the west side of the park and is the best place to stay (I have stayed there twice) to be close (or I should say not too far) from the main attractions. Try this web site: http://www.westyellowstonechamber.com/

The closest airports will be Jackson Hole, Wyoming or Billings, Mt. Otherwise you may be able to fly into a closer airport in a 4,6 or 8 seat plane. I have driven into the park from Billings several times an that route crosses Bear Tooth Gap which is very pretty. The drive from Jackson Hole is also pretty because you drive uphill to kinda suddenly you can see the Teton Mountains.

Yes it can get cold at night; we ere there 2 years ago in mid-June and it snowed enough to close some roads. Just take alight jacket, you will not be out at night, its waaaay too dark and there are wild animals roaming.

Must sees:

-Old Faithful and the Norris Geyser Basin.
-Tower Falls
-Monmouth Hot springs
-The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
-Firehole river canyon and falls
-The Grand Tetons

I doubt very seriously you'll be getting a cabin near Yellowstone with less than a month to go before you book it. Also, why do you need a fireplace in July? It's hot in Wyoming in July. You can fly into Jackson, WY. It's expensive, so are all the hotels in the area. There is no one place to stay that is centrally located to all the attractions - the park is HUGE.

i don't know about lodging, but West Yellowstone, MT is about 30 miles from Old Faithful and has a large airport.

i've got been to many entertainment parks. those I extremely enjoyed have been action picture international in Australia and Disneyland and nicely-known Studios in California :D there have been rides I enjoyed, yet i did no longer bypass on them persistently returned with the aid of fact there are much and a lot of alternative rides at those subject matter parks which i needed to purpose and many times waiting time is rather a ***** on the greater familiar ones. additionally, the reality that i grew to become into in those international places for a holiday grew to become right into a proscribing component.. you many times merely have that couple of hours in that sometime to relish that subject matter park.
