Why are people so discourteous nowadays?

Don't me wrong, I don't like a salesperson on top of me when I walk into a store but went into an American Eagle Outifitter the other day. Not ONE of the 20 somethings even said hello or asked if they could help me. There were 5 people working and they seemed numb to the customers.

I haven't only noticed this at AE, in general it seems less and less young people are very courteous.

Why?

Most people just lack home training. There are too many babies having babies becoming parents when they do not know enough have not experienced enough to know what to pass on to their children and how to pass it on.

Let's be honest when a twenty year old has a child and is not married it is a doomsday for the child. Mom and dad usually part leaving a one parent home (not in the child's interest) a place to live that is less than ideal, in a school system that reflects the area where you live and a working not stay home mom. the loss is that of the children and then they have children, who learn from poorly taught, raised, trained children.

With all of the people who have children with computers few can even speak or spell English correctly even with spell check. It starts in the home.

Ignorance, conceit, selfishness, lack of self respect, negligent up-bringing, too many worldly stresses, fear there is no future, look around it is everwhere. I once heard a sermon about all the problems in the world, "You cannot carpet the entire world but-------You can wear slippers". So I would have to say be courteous and show them just how it is done, start with a smile say hello, how is your day going? ask if you could help me please? Feel out the situation, then you might ask how may you help them. One never knows what is going on in others lives, they may be so self consumed by (whatever) they may not be able to extend themselves to others, but they will remember that smile you gave them and maybe next time they may smile back.

It's the same at fast food places. Many people working only want the paycheck.
It may be what a person wears. Do an experiment; go back to the AEO store dressed in your church clothes; I bet they take notice.
Many parents don't expect much in the way of manners from their children.

You may not be a Christian/religious, but I can give you this perspective, this may be overdone but here goes:
Maybe because people are less touched by God. People have become so selfish, they only want to do something if they get something out of it.
It is lack of charity, which is the greatest things people should have to be a christian.

(2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV) But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. {2} People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, {3} without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, {4} treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- {5} having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

because they hate their job, or they dont see the point seeing that people usually ignores them as well. i use to work retail and after a few rude customers, you let people be until they ask for help. you would not believe the people that walk in the store. and if your looking for someone to talk to when shopping, bring a friend

Respectfully, people on Y!A could use some lessons as well! Especially with rules violations, they suspend accounts and refuse to either explain or give any real appeal.
