90s stuff eh? Don't see any grunge bands other than Nirvana. Perhaps you can try:

Pearl Jam: Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy
Alice in Chains: Anything really, Dirt, Jar of Flies, Facelift, Unplugged are your best choices
Stone Temple Pilots: Core, Purple
Soundgarden: Superunknown...godly album

While not grunge, Dave Grohl of Nirvana went to Foo Fighters afterwards. Their first 3 albums (Foo Fighters, Colour/Shape, and There is Nothing Left to Lose, are considered by many to be great rock albums. Try those out.

Regarding punk, there's old Green Day (Dookie to Nimrod) and Offspring (Smash to Conspiracy of One). Also worth checking out is Rancid. You probably may have heard all of them. Both GD and OS has some older albums before they went mainstream.

Of course, there are also some classic rock bands like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, etc... that may help as well.

So...

Well I can give you a couple of awesome 80's ska groups. English Beat, The Specials. As far as punk goes I ,again will have to send you back in time to what some consider a cornerstone of punk(punk with a message) That band would have to be..............The Clash(to me their music is timeless)
Since you listen to Nirvana i can only guess that you know Jane's Addiction, and Stone Temple Pilots.Another cool group is Dread Zeppelin , and Dub Syndicate(reggae dub). Radiohead,I don't consider them punk but they aren't on the radio either so they ain't pop.

Happy listening........................................................

I think that Ore Ska Band is a wonderful band to listen to.
Their genre is ska/rock/j-ska
They are a great band with tons of energy and awesome music.
Even if you can't understand japanese all that well, or not at all, their music still inspires you to get up and jump around.

Try this new band called Silversun Pickups...they have this song called lazy eye that just plain rocks! Also, it's nowhere near new, but check out Johnny Cash's "american recordings" series--he has a lot of awesome cover tunes (from Soundgarden to NIN to Depeche Mode)

good luck!

I would recommend Incubus. Not their newer stuff if you've heard that, but check out songs from Enjoy Incubus, Fungus Amoungus, S.C.I.E.N.C.E., and maybe even Make Yourself. I think they would fall nicely into the genres you named. Their early works were punk blended with a little hip hop and funk.

the shins - wincing the night away
the vines - highly evolved
little brother - the minstrel show
gym class heroes - as cruel as school children
nas - illmatic

and i'm going to throw something completely random out there... i heard a UK dub-step album last night by an artist named "skream".. the album was called "skream!"...and i don't know if it was the alcohol last night, or the fun time that i was having, but it was a pretty solid cd.
